Bayern Munich scored four times in both halves to batter Barcelona 8-2 on Friday to reach the Champions League semifinals for the second time in three years.
Both Thomas Müller and Philippe Coutinho got a brace, while Ivan Perišić Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich and Robert Lewandowski scored a goal each to make sure Barcelona’s season ended on a miserable note
Interestingly, Coutinho on loan in Bayern from Barcelona aided in inflicting on his team one of the worst defeats in their history. Needless to mention that Barcelona spent big in signing the Brazilian in 2018.
The Spanish giants replied with an own-goal by David Alaba in the first half and a goal by Luis Suárez in the second, but Bayern, Seeking its first Champions League title since 2013, were simply ruthless.
They will now face either Manchester City or Lyon, who meet on Saturday in the last quarterfinal.
