Uche Ogbuagu Impeached As Imo Assembly Majority Leader

The majority leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Owerri, Mr. Uche Ogbuagu has been impeached, becoming the first casualty of a cold war that had engulfed that state legislature since the supreme court removal of Emeka Ihedioha as governor.

The comedian turned politician was impeached during plenary on Thursday, presided over by speaker Paul Emezim, and held under tight security.

He was removed by a majority vote, Emeziem announced.

Ogbuagu, who represents Ikeduru state constituency, had defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, shortly after Mr. Ihedioha was removed in January 2020, in a desperate bid to emerge as a principal officer of the house.

Mr. Ogbuagu had been at loggerheads with deputy speaker, Amarachi Iwuanyanwu.
