President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, met with the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, three days after the latter was nearly killed by gunmen, said to be herdsmen.
Mr. Ortom was on his way to his farm, alongside some security operatives when the incident happened.
Buhari has since ordered a thorough investigation.
Mr. Ortom later told journalists after meeting the president that if the insecurity challenges in the country persist, the 2023 elections will not hold.
He thanked the President for condemning the attack on his farm but said, “that there will be no 2023 elections in Nigeria if insecurity persists”.
According to the governor, the nation is sitting on a keg of gun powder without meaningful progress being made on the issue of security.
