Residents Block Abuja-Kaduna Highway, Protest Ceaseless Kidnapping By Bandits

Residents of Gauraka community in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State on Morning morning blocked the Abuja-Kaduna highway to protest the ceaseless kidnapping in the community.

The protesters burnt tyres and blocked vehicles from proceeding on the highway, as they asked the State and Federal Government boost security in the area.

Armed bandits had invaded the community on Saturday and Sunday and kidnapped no fewer than fifteen persons, killing three others.

Gauraka community is just five kilometres away from Nigeria’s seat of power, Abuja.

Residents say more than thirty people have been abducted from the area since January.

Niger State as a whole has been under siege, with bandits and Boko Haram fighters killing hundreds of people, including security personnel.

More than fifteen thousand people had been displaced and now sheltered in temporary camps operated by the State Government.

In April, Governor Abubakar Bello had announced that Boko Haram terrorists have hoisted their flags in some communities in Niger State.
