Respect Human Rights, Stop Attacks On Peaceful Protesters, Amnesty Tells Buhari Govt

Amnesty International has asked the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to respect Human Rights and stop the attacks on peaceful protesters across Nigeria.

The civil society group made the call in a statement on Saturday, saying that it received reports of attacks on people protesting peacefully on Democracy Day.

The statement read, “Amnesty International has been receiving disturbing reports of attacks on peaceful protesters in Abuja, Lagos and Ibadan.

“Some protesters have also been arrested while others were injured.

“We again call on the Nigerian authorities to respect human rights and end attacks on peaceful protesters.”

CHECKPOINTCHARLEY had earlier reported that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force tear-gassed protesters in Abuja and Lagos.

The protesters are demanding an end to bad governance and insecurity.
