Nigeria’s secret police, Department of State Services continued its disregard for the rule of law and contempt for the courts on Thursday when it failed to produce 12 detained associates of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho in the Federal High Court Abuja.
Due to the absence of the detainees, the court was forced to adjourn the matter till Monday.
The court had earlier ordered the DSS to produce them in court.
Justice Obiora Egwatu on Thursday again ordered the DSS to produce the 12 Aides of Sunday Igboho in court on Monday, August 2.
He said that when a court of competent Jurisdiction gives an order, such must be respected and obeyed.
Justice Egwatu also directed the DSS to make it possible for the Counsel to the 12 Aides to see them between today and the next adjourned date (Monday).
The detained aides had sued the DSS and its Director-General, Yusuf Bichi, following their arrest and detention on July 1, after the DSS’ raid of Igboho’s residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Recall that the DSS had also on Monday failed to produce Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra in court.
