The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, says that it is quite sad that Nigerian Universities are still closed after so many months.
Bishop Kukah said this on Wednesday at the signing of a peace accord ahead of the Osun State gubernatorial election, noting that it is unacceptable in a democracy.
According to him, the prolonged strike does not speak well of the democracy we’re supposedly practicing.
Democracy has always given the people a platform for negotiation, he said and could not understand why the strike has remained unresolved after many months.
Kukah stressed that Nigeria must understand that without the universities giving opportunities for academic energy, analysis, and theorizing, it is impossible for the nation’s democracy to grow.
