
At least 30 persons have died after an engine boat loaded with about 85 passengers capsized on Friday in Umunnankwo community of Ogbaru Local Government Council of Anambra State.
According to an eyewitness, the boat took off from Onukwu Bridge and was heading for Nkwo market and Ogbakuba; both in Ogbaru LGA, when it capsized.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY gathered that the ill-fated boat took off from Onukwu Bridge and was heading to Nkwo market, Ogbakuba in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, before it capsized.
Only nine persons have been rescued while the rest are missing, according to a source.
The Transition Committee Chairman, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Pascal Aniegbuna, confirmed the incident, saying some of the passengers were rescued while several others lost their lives.
