Dino Melaye’s Report Of Attack On Atiku’s Convoy False And Mischievous – Police

The Borno State Police Command has said that there was no attack on the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, as “falsely and mischievously claimed by a PDP chieftain, Dino Melaye.

The former senator had earlier said Atiku’s convoy was attacked, claiming that “over 100 vehicles were allegedly vandalised by hoodlums from different political parties and about 74 persons hospitalised.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sani Shatambaya debunked this on Wednesday while addressing newsmen, saying reported attack is false.

He said, “The news of the attack on Atiku Abubakar’s convoy was not only fake but a false and mischievous attempt at confusing Nigerians.”

The police paraded one Danladi Musa Abbas, 32, for “attempting to disrupt the escort of the presidential candidate on the way to the airport,” adding that, “he was arrested with a stone, and on sighting the police, he ran into a church where he was arrested.

According to Shatambaya, the police are hunting for his other accomplices.

Also, the chairman, Borno State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Ali Dalori, also denied that the party sent thugs to attack Atiku’s convoy in reaction to Melaye’s allegation.

“I am disappointed by the allegations made by Dino Meleye that some APC thugs attacked Atiku’s convoy while in Maiduguri for their presidential campaign rally,” Dalori reacted on phone.

“We all know that since Governor Babagana Zulum took over the mantle of leadership, in his acceptance speech, he announced a ban on all political thuggery across the state,” he said.
