The ‘President-elect’, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria amid the rancour and bad blood generated by the conduct of the 2023 election by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC.
He was sworn-in on Monday, few minutes after the Vice President-elect,, Kashim Shettima, took his oath of office.
Tinubu was controversially declared winner of the 2023 presidential election by INEC amid allegations of massive rigging and failure to fulfill all the constitutional conditions required to be declared ‘president-elect’, which includes, amongst other things, securing 25% of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, are challenging his purported victory in court.
Both men also boycotted the swearing in ceremony held at the iconic Eagle Square, Abuja.
The swearing -in was followed by the lowering of national and defence flag which was folded and handed over to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, who in turn immediately handed it over to Muhammadu Buhari.
It marked the end of his era, adjudged by many as the worst presidency in Nigerian democratic history.
The former president thereafter left for the airport, from where he will be airlifted to his Daura Hometown, where he said he would spend his last days – taking care of his many cows.
After the folding of the flag, there was the hoisting of national flag, signalling a new political dawn, with Tinubu, who realized life dream of becoming president, in charge.
