Suspended CBN Gov Emefiele Now In Our Custody – DSS

The Department of State Services has arrested and detained the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, is now in its custody.

This is according to a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Peter Afunanya, on Saturday.

It said, “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.

“The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”

This comes hours after the Service first denied arresting Emefiele.

The former boss of Nigeria’s apex bank was reportedly nabbed while attempting to flee Nigeria by road.

President Bola Tinubu had on Friday night suspended Emefiele and ordered him to handover the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the CBN governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
