Police Disrupt Peaceful Protests By UNILAG Students With Gunshots, Teargas

Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force on Wednesday disrupted peaceful protest by students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with gunshots and teargas.

The students had converged around the school to protest the increase in tuition.

The protest was peaceful until shots and teargas were fired by the police officers, who were on the ground to monitor the students.

NANS had on Tuesday informed the police of plans to hold the peaceful protest on September 6, 2023, at the University of Lagos.

It had also warned the Department of State Services not to prevent students from exercising their rights to protest, saying it is a universally recognised human right.
