…To Visit Ikebiri During Electioneering Campaigns

Governor Douye Diri has promised to install solar street lights in Ikebiri community, headquarters of the Apoi/Olodiama Rural Development Area (RDA) ahead of the Nov.11 governorship election, just as he assured the people that he would personally visit Ikebiri community during his electioneering campaigns.
Senator Diri, who was represented by his commissioner for Power, Dr. Robert Ebitei Tonyon made the promise during a pre-electioneering campaign sensitisation visit to the community in the company of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Working Committee on Thursday.
While reiterating the commitment of the prosperity administration’s towards rural transformation through construction of roads to link major communities across the state, he said communities in Ward 3 would be connected through the ongoing Bayelsa Central Senatorial Road project during his second term in office.
The governor disclosed that the 600 meters Angiama-Oporoma bridge has crossed the River Nun, informing that contracts for link roads to Oporoma and Otuan communities have already been awarded and the contractor has mobilised to site for commencement of the both road projects.
He maintained that the prosperity administration’s core values were entrenched in the welfare of the citizens with particular focus on opening up rural communities through the construction of link roads to connect major communities across the state.
“The length of the Agiama -Oporoma bridge in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area is about 600 meters. The contract also includes Oporoma and Otuan link roads. The road will later extend to Ondewari, Korokorosei, Ikebiri, and Olugbobiri during our second tenure in office. The philosophy of the prosperity government is to reward evil with love. “Our pre-campaign visit to Ikebiri community is primarily to present items of empowerment to the community based on earlier assessments. We are using the occasion to welcome decampees from the All Progressive Party (APC), New Nigerian PeoplesParty (NNPP), and the Labour Party (LP) among others. Be rest assured that your community will certainly reap the democratic dividends through our party, the PDP, “the governor assured.
While receiving the decampees from APC, NNPP, and LP,
the PDP State Chairman, represented by the Vice Chairman, Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Chief Wisdom Nathan told the decampees to feel at home with party which has been their original party, assuring that they were now qualified to enjoy all rights and privileges of the party, as they were entitled to contest for positions in the party.
Responding on behalf of the decampees, Hon. Fabofieghe Diepreye, who defected from APC said PDP has better vision for the people of Southern Ijaw and Bayelsa as a whole, lamenting that out of 23 APC federal appointments recently announced, non was given to any person from Southern Ijaw. He also hinted that more APC members would decamp to the PDP in the coming weeks ahead of the November 11 governorship election.
Former governorship aspirant under the PDP, Mr. Christopher K. Johnson, who facilitated the visit, said that after a needs assessment in the community, the party’s hierarchy decided to present some items to the community in line with the party’s grassroots development mantra. The items include school desks, tables, chairs, gas cookers, fishing nets, traps, rainboots, and machete, among other farming implements.
In his response, the paramount ruler of Ikebiri Kingdom, HRH, Francis Ododo, Ike VIII, thanked the PDP delegation for the visit, describing it as a sign of better days ahead. According to him, the visit of the State Working Committee of the party was first of its kind during his reign as a paramount ruler of Ikebiri Kingdom, saying that Ikebiri has been a peace loving and hospitable community.
Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer at the Korokorosei Police district headquarters, ASP. Diepreye Koikoibo assured the people of the area of safety and security, saying that his personnel were on ground to maintain law and order, just as he solicited for the cooperation of all and sundry in the quest for peaceful coexistence.
On his part, the representative of the Acting Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council, Comrade Akpos T Sunday, also assured of the unflinching support of the council.
Receiving the items for empowerment, the Chairman of Chiefs’ Council, Chief Abraham A Kinigi, who expressed surprise at the kind gesture from the PDP leadership in the Community, noted that no other political party had made such presentation of empowerment items to the community, saying that it was the first time to experience such in his lifetime. He thanked the governor and the party’s leadership for showing interest in the community.
Earlier in his welcome address, the PDP Ward 3 chairman, Gbeinbo Keme Magnus, had expressed confidence in the prosperity government’s rural development agenda, assuring that Governor Douye Diri would have overwhelming victory in the forthcoming governorship election, come November 11, 2023.
Other members of the PDP State Working Committee that graced the event include the State Legal Adviser, Barr. Christopher Kainga, State Vice Chairman, Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Barr Andi Obed, and the State Financial Sec, Chief Amalala Atua.
Also, in attendance were former Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council and Technical Advisor to the governor on Special Duties, Hon. Ebiki Faithful Hassan, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Tourism, Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Special Duties, Foreman Welson, among other top party stalwarts from Southern Ijaw.
