Former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdurasheed Bawa, has been released from detention.
Bawa was freed on Wednesday night from the national headquarters of the secret police in Abuja, after 134 days in unlawful detention, with no charges.
The Secret Police were unable to file charges against him or disclose the nature of his offense since his arrest and detention.
Bawa was arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) on June 14, 2023, almost immediately after his suspension from office as EFCC Chairman by President Bola Tinubu, who had claimed that he abused of office.
The president had on October 12 appointed Ola Olukoyede to replace Bawa at the EFCC.
