Nigerian Democracy Imperiled Because Judiciary, INEC Are Trapped – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last election Atiku Abubakar said on Monday that the Nigerian Judiciary and the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC are trapped, noting that Nigeria’s democracy is therefore imperiled.

Atiku said this during a press conference in Abuja on Monday as he reacted to the decision of the Supreme which affirmed the controversial election victory of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He slammed both the apex court decision and that of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, saying such decisions would lead to erosion of trust in the system.

The PDP standard-bearer said the statement by Supreme Court Justice, Adamu Dattijo, who retired on Friday proves that all is not well with the Judiciary.

Justice Dattijo had in farewell remarks rebuked present-day judiciary, which he implied had become seriously compromised.
