The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Barde, has been redeployed over alleged partisanship.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun disclosed thison Sunday night during a Channels Television programme .
Egbetokun said, “We are aware that there are allegations against the Commissioner of Police in Imo. Before the elections, we’re changing the CP. This is not to say the CP has been found guilty. But for neutrality sake, we are changing the Commissioner of Police in Imo State.”
This comes barely six days to the Imo State governorship election, scheduled for November 11.
Mr. Hope Uzodinma is seeking reelection as governor.
Mr Barde had been accused of working for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
Recently, he was also accused of working alongside thugs to abduct and brutalize the president of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, who was in Owerri to protest alongside other workers over the nonpayment of workers salaries.
The NLC, the Trade Union Congress, the Labour Party, and Civil Society Organisations had called for Barde’s redeployment.
