Popular activist, Aisha Yesufu, has warned corrupt Nigerian politicians, who are frustrating the masses, that “noboby will be spared” in the looming uprising.
She gave the warning via X account on Monday amid anger over the conduct and outcome of the off-cycle elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states, noting that “Nobody saw the #EndSARS protest coming. Nobody will see the next uprising coming.”
Yesufu said the anger burning in the hearts of Nigerians may sponsor another protest hotter than the one experienced in 2020 tagged ‘EndSARS’.
Yesufu, the co-convener of the BringBackOur Girls, who was one of the key players at the centre of the ENDSARS protests, said Nigerians might just be caught unaware in another demonstration.
She wrote, “Sadly, it might end up being violent. There is simmering anger fuelled by the impunity and brazenness of the corrupt politicians and rulers, who have rigged their way into power. Nobody will be spared.”
This comes barely hours after the off-cycle elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa, in which all the incumbents won, despite unemployment standing at above 50% in all the three states.
In Imo, both the candidates of the Labour Party (LP), Athan Achonu and Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic party PDP had called for the cancellation of the governorship election, which Hope Uzodinma of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to INEC, won by a landlside and cleared all the 27 local government areas in the state.
His opponents allege massive rigging, vote-buying and violence.
The purported losers in Kogi, Dino Melaye of the PDP and Muritala Ajaka of the Democratic Party (SDP) have also rejected the outcome.
