The Labour Party on Thursday categorically stated that it has no plan to merge with the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had on Tuesday urged opposition parties to merge so as to defeat the ruling APC in the next presidential poll.
But LP spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, while reacting to Atiku’s suggestion in a statement on Thursday, said the party has not discussed any merger
According to Ifoh, Atiku’s call “was only a proposal and every Nigerian should be interested in making democracy work in Nigeria and that what we have presently is an autocracy.
“There was nowhere in the response that the purported merger between LP and PDP was mentioned.”
