JUST IN: 27 Rivers PDP Lawmakers Defect To APC

The power tussle between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike took an interesting twist on Monday with twenty-seven members defecting from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Though the defecting lawmakers cited internal wranglings within the PDP as the primary reason, they are said to be the ones loyal to Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a powerful member of President Bola Tinubu’s kitchen cabinet.

The lawmakers are also those under the leadership of Martin Amaehwule, under whom the Rivers Assembly plunged into crisis, following their failed attempt to impeach Governor Fubara.

The lawmakers of the crisis-riden Rivers Assembly reportedly held plenary around 8am on Monday where the decision was taken.

CHECKPOINTCHARLEY gathered that they sat under tight security mounted at the entrance of the Assembly complex along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.
