Governor Sim Fubara on Thursday took further steps to be fully in charge in Rivers State by sacking four more Commissioners in his cabinet, who are said to have been appointed by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Though they were said to have tendered their resignation, but CHECKPOINTCHARLEY was reliably informed that they were forced to quit after they were declared persona non grata in the Fubara administration.
This is as the political crisis in the oil-rich state worsens, following a bitter fight between Governor Fubara, and Wike, his estranged political godfather.
The source, who did not want his name in print, said the governor is making efforts to fully assert himself and is sacking all members of his cabinet, who were appointed by Wike.
Recall that the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice for the state, Prof. Zacchaeus Adango, SAN, who had also served in Wike’s cabinet, had ‘resigned’ earlier on Thursday.
It was also reported that Chief Emeka Woke, the Commissioner for Special Projects had resigned from his office, although at press time, there has not been any official letter to confirm the development
But, the Commissioner for Works, Dax George Kelly, Isaac Kamalu, the Commissioner for Finance, and Inimie Aguma, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation have tendered their resignation.
This makes it five aides of the governor who have resigned from office since Thursday morning.
Kelly said in his letter addressed to the governor through the office of the Secretary to the state Government that his decision was based on conscience.
“My decision to resign is anchored on my conscience, personal philosophy and professional ethics. This decision was taken after deep introspect.”
