
With barely five days into the New Year suspected members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, have reportedly killed a popular pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations, Luka Levong, in Geidam, Yobe State, in the early hours of Friday.
Residents, who spoke to Channels TV, said the terrorists launched their attack on the area around 2 am on Friday. The attack was also said to have led to the death of the church’s treasurer, Maina Abdullahi.
They said the terrorists also burnt down several houses and a church during their attack.
However, the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, had yet tp confirm the incident, saying he does not have detailed information when he was contacted.
Geidam is a hotspot in the fight against insurgency in Northeast Nigeria, and over 150,000 people have been displaced in the area.
Boko Haram, a militant group based in the region, has killed an estimated 50,000 people and displaced more than 2.5 million people since its establishment.
