
No fewer than four people were reportedly killed on Sunday night and many wounded as suspected herdsmen invaded Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Residents told the Punch that herdsmen attacked mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community killing four people instantly.
Although some residents said four corpses had been recovered, the community have formed search parties as so many people are currently missing.
One of the residents, Chijoke Okunna said that seven people were seriously inflicted with machete cuts.
He gave the names of some of the victims as Okeh Simon Ugwu, Oruku Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.
A police source who was among the Rapid Response Team dispatched to the community, also told the newspaper that the entire community had been deserted.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State police command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, but could not immediately provide details.
Recall that in April 2016, Fulani herdsmen also attacked the Nimbo community and killed at least 14 people.
