$3m Otedola Bribe: Former Reps Member Faruk Lawan Regains Freedom After Serving Jail Term

Farouk Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives, who was sentenced to five years imprisonment for demanding and accepting a $500,000 bribe from Businessman Femi Otedola has regained his freedom after serving his five-year jail term.

He was found guilty of soliciting a $3 million bribe from Mr. Otedola, a Nigerian billionaire oil tycoon while serving as chairman of the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating fuel subsidy fraud in 2012.

Lawan’s conviction had been upheld by the Supreme Court on January 26, 2024.

Spokesman of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service NCoS, Adamu Duza confirmed Lawan’s release from Kuje Prison.
