Nigerian Senate Approves Tinubu’s $2.2bn Loan Request Amid Country’s Mountainous Debt

The Nigeria Senate, led by Godswill Akpabio, Thursday approved a $2.2 billion loan request by President Bola Tinubu.

The approval came within hours after President Tinubu transmitted his request to borrow more to the National Asembly.

The senate okayed the loan request, amid the country’s mountainous foreign debts after reviewing a report presented by Aliyu Wamakko, chair of the Committee on Local and Foreign Debt.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who presided over Thursday’s section, praised the committee for its prompt action and comprehensive review of the loan request.
