‘I Cannot Be Silenced’ – Farotimi Breaks Down In Emotional Video

Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi said in an emotional video on Sunday that “I cannot be silenced,” vowing to sue all those involved in his “abduction.”

In the video titled “The Walk to Freedom” posted on Youtube, he also promised to petition the The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee ,LPDC, so that many lawyers “will never get to practice law again. He may be refering to those who played a role in his abduction and detention that saw him spend 21 days in an Ekiti prison.

He also reflected on the overwhelming support he got from Nigerians, thanking them for theiir collective support.

The Human Rights activist singled out Mr Peter Obi and Publisher of SaharaReporters, Yele Sowore for special praise.

He however broke down when he regretted how the ruling class “divided us on ethnic and religious lines” for their own selfish ends, advising that Nigerians need to come together to fight for their freedom.

“We stop being humans because we became Nigerians. Nigerians overlooked my ethnicity, my religion, and spoke for me.

“Nigeria couldn’t happen to me because people spoke for me,” attributing his release to the solidarity and advocacy shown by citizens across diverse backgrounds,” he said.

Farotimi was abducted on December 3 at his Lagos office by police officers from Ekiti Command and bundled to Ekiti, where he faced charges stemming from allegations of defaming Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, in his book Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

He was released on bail on December 24 after meeting stringent bail conditions, which included a ₦30 million bond, two sureties (one a property owner), surrendering his passport, and agreeing not to grant media interviews post-release.
