Mojisola Meranda has been stepped down as speaker of the Lagos State Assembly, follwing intense presure from the All Progressive Congress (APC) leadership.
She resigned on Monday amid the speakership crisis rocking the Assembly after Mudashiru Obasa was sacked by fellow lawmakers.
Her resignation followed Monday’s closed-door meeting between the lawmakers, chairman of the state All Progressives Congress, APC, Cornelius Ojelabi, and the Attorney General of Lagos State.
There had also been meeting on Sunday night with stakeholders and leaders of the party, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
It was gathered that Meranda succumbed to immense pressure from state party leaders and accepted to step down.
Though she claimed that she resigned to protect the state assembly, adding that she is not a quitter.
“I take a bow as your Speaker,” she announced.
Before announcing her resignation, the state lawmakers took turns to commend her legislative acumen, diligence, and performance within her short time in office.
