Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Resubmits Sexual Harassment Petition Against Senate President Akpabio

Lawmaker representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has resubmitted her petition against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, resubmitted the petition during Thursday plenary, after her earlier petition was rejected by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions on procedural grounds.

Speaking during the presentation, the Kogi lawmaker said the newly submitted petition was filed by her constituents, led by one Zubairu Yakubu.

Her earlier petition alleging sexual harassment by Akpabio was rejected on Wednesday because it was bearing the signature of the lawmaker, instead of her constituents as required by senate rules.

During Thursday’s plenary, Natasha, who accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of office, was asked whether the matter was already before any court of law.

She, however, said it was not.

The lawmaker was subsequently directed to formally submit the petition, after which it was referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Code of Conduct for investigation.

The committee was given four weeks to conduct its probe and report to the Senate.
