Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe has said that the Nigerian Senate has no powers to suspend the senator representing Kogi West, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stressing that the courts have made this succintly clear.
Talking on AriseTV Morning Show on Monday, he said the Senate hurriedly axed her for selfish reasons.
According to him, the Senate has no powers to suspend a Senator, representing a people, and also withhold her salary, and withdraw her security details.
“A senator is not an employee of the senate, neither is Akpabio the one paying her salary nor is he the Inspector-General of Police, who assigns security details to senators,” he said.
The former minister of works accused the senate of bias in handling the Natasha case and it has put the senate in disrepute.
“The chairman of the ethics Committee, was unduly influenced by the Senate president.”
