The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tony Okocha has poured fuel into the burning political crisis in Rivers State, calling on the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara to resign or face impeachment.
Okocha made the call in Port Harcourt on Monday, rejecting the invitation of the 27 lawmakers to a meeting by Fubara, which he dubbed a Greek gift.
Okocha, a staunch ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike who is at loggerheads with Fubara, at a news briefing claimed that by every standard the governor has disrespected President Bola Tinubu and abused the rule of law.
“The invitation to the lawmakers is a Greek Gift. The Supreme Court Judgement is final. There is nothing anybody can do about it. The only option available to the governor now is for him to resign or be impeached,” he said.
Okocha’s call comes on a day Mr. Fubara was hoping to meet the disgruntled lawmakers, loyal to Wike, in a move he said is to find peace and move the state forward in the interest of the people.
