The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has finally dismissed the suspicious petition to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, saying it did not meet constitutional requirements.
INEC on Thursday in a tweet on its ‘X’ handle said; “The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended)”.
Senator Natasha had accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio as being behind the move to recall her from the Nigerian Senate, despite the enormous support she enjoys from her constituents.
According to her, the senate president had recruited embattled former Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello to make sure that she is recalled.
“Money had also changed hands,” she said.
A video had gone viral on the internet, showing hired agents in a room allegedly manufacturing the over 250,000 signatures that was submitted to INEC to back the recall process.
Meanwhile, a tumultous crowd Tuesday defied government ban and intimidations to welcome Senator Natasha back in Kogi in what she tagged “homecoming”.
Recall that she had been suspended from the senate for six months, after she accused Akpabio of sexually harassing her.
The preponderance of legal opinion is that her suspension is a violation of law.
