The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested businesswoman Aisha Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Achimugu, an ally of Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo Olu was arrested Tuesday morning on her return from London, her legal team said in a statement.
Achimugu had been declared wanted in March by the EFCC over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo, had on Monday ordered her to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday, and also to appear before the court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Achimugu’s lawyer, Chief Chikaosolu Ojukwu, has criticised her arrest, describing it as a violation of court order.
“Aisha Achimugu, who arrived voluntarily into the country from London, was arrested by the EFCC around 5 a.m. on Tuesday,” he said.
