Amid the unending crisis crippling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and gale of defections, former Benue State governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam says the once powerful party is dead.
Senator Suswam gave the damning verdict while speaking on Arise TV Prime Time on Tuesday night, tracing the cause to leadership crisis, which had bedeviled the party.
Interestingly, he painted a picture of betrayal of the PDP by former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, whom he said failed to provide leadership after benefitting from the party.
For instance, Jonathan “has never attended any PDP meeting since he left office as president,” Suswam regretted.
“So, as you can see, the leadership problem in the PDP did not start today,” he said. Though he blamed those who recently put personal ambition first as responsible for the current sorry state of the party.
Suswam said he cannot fault former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa for leaving the party, noting that more notable members will leave in the coming weeks – due to the current leadership of the PDP.
