Ibom Air Female Passenger Who Assaulted Crew Member Remanded In Kirikiri

A female passenger, who assaulted airline officials on an Ibom Air flight inbound Lagos from Uyo, Comfort Emmanson, has reportedly been  charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.

Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, disclosed this on his official X handle on Monday.

He said the passenger, who was seen in a viral video assaulting a crew member and other airline officials aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, was charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.

According to Ibom Air, the incident began before take-off from Uyo when Emmanson refused to comply with safety procedures requiring passengers to switch off their mobile phones.

The airline stated that a fellow passenger seated beside her switched off the phone, sparking a verbal tirade.

But on arrival in Lagos, Emmanson confronted the purser, who had earlier instructed her to switch off her phone and physically assaulted her, it said.

Ibom Air alleged that the passenger attempted to forcibly remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon, an act they described as “an intention to damage and ground the aircraft”.

The development comes few days after a similar incident involving popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka KWAM 1 or K1 and an airline, ValueJet.

K1 had attempted to stop a ValueJet aircraft from taking off after he was denied boarding.

He had not yet been charged with any offence as at the time of filing this report.
