The thirty-eight members of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, who were abducted by terrorists during a Thanksgiving service, have regained their freedom after five days in captivity.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced their release in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye, on Sunday.
The governor said the development followed days of coordinated efforts by security agencies and federal authorities.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu had directed increased security operations in response to the incidents in Kwara and Kebbi states, including the deployment of additional tactical teams to Kwara.
AbdulRazaq expressed appreciation to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency and the Nigeria Police Force for their roles in the rescue operation.
He also commended community leaders and residents for their support during the period.
Security agencies had yet to release further details on how the victims were freed or whether arrests were made.
