The Chief Executive officer of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, has resigned following allegation that he paid over $5million in tuition fees for his children in private secondary schools in Switzerland despite being a public servant whose income could not cover such luxury.
His resignation comes barely 24 hours after Aliko Dangote, president and chief executive of Dangote Industries Limited submitted a complaint to an anti-graft agency asking for his arrest and prosecution.
According to Dangote, Mr Ahmed embezzled public funds.
Gbenga Komolafe of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC also resigned.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga announced the resignation in a statement on Wednesday, stating that President Bola Tinubu has nominated his replacement.
He stated that Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the NMDPRA and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC.
“To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.
“The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry,” Bayo said.
