
Pope Leo XIV has expressed sorrow over recent violent attacks on communities in Nigeria.
This followed reports that jihadists killed over 162 people in Woro village, Kwara State in Western Nigeria.
There were also attacks by terrorists in Kwande, Benue State in North-Central that left many dead and others wounded.
During the attack on Woro, the assailants also burned shops, houses, including the home of a traditional ruler.
Reacting on Sunday, the pontiff offered prayers for the victims and called on authorities to strengthen security.
“It is with sorrow and concern that I learned of the recent attacks against various communities in Nigeria leading to a heavy loss of life. I express my prayerful closeness to all the victims of violence and terrorism. I likewise hope that the competent Authorities will continue to work with determination to ensure the safety and protection of the life of every citizen,” Pope Leo XIV wrote on X.
