The heirs of the late His Royal Highness (Dr) Zulkarnani Gambari Mohammed, the 9th Emir of Ilorin, have formally announced their acceptance of the advice rendered by a committee regarding the mosque structure erected on the Matchco inheritance estate.
In a letter addressed to the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin and copied to relevant authorities, the family confirmed that, despite initial concerns surrounding the construction of the mosque on the undivided inheritance property without the consent of all heirs, they have collectively resolved to embrace a peaceful and reconciliatory path.
The heirs emphasized that their decision reflects a commitment to unity, justice, and the preservation of family harmony in accordance with Islamic principles. Rather than pursue demolition of the structure, they have agreed to dedicate the mosque as a lasting tribute to their late father.
“This decision is a voluntary gesture made in the interest of peace, unity, and respect for the memory of our late father,” the statement read, noting that the land on which the mosque stands remains part of the undivided estate and has not been transferred to any individual or party.
The family further clarified that the portion of land occupied by the mosque will be set aside from the estate to allow the structure to continue serving the Muslim community as a place of worship and remembrance. They expressed hope that the mosque will stand as a source of spiritual benefit and a form of ongoing charity (Ṣadaqah Jāriyah) for the late Emir.
However, the heirs have raised concerns regarding the circumstances under which the mosque was constructed. The structure is alleged to have been erected by Dr. Abdulkadir Salman Jumu’ah Solagberu, Chief Imam of the Abuja National Mosque and Malami Ubandoma of Ilorin Emirate, on land forming part of the joint inheritance estate without the consent or authorization of all heirs.
In this regard, the family has respectfully called on Dr. Solagberu to clarify the circumstances surrounding the construction of the mosque on the heirs’ property. Specifically, they have requested that he state whether the land was purchased, from whom it was acquired, the amount paid, and the basis upon which he proceeded with the development.
They stressed that this clarification is necessary to ensure proper documentation, prevent future disputes, and facilitate the just and peaceful distribution of the remaining estate in accordance with Islamic inheritance law.
The family expressed appreciation for the guidance and intervention of community and religious leaders, and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding justice, unity, and the values of Islam.
