Serena Williams could face her sister, Venus, in the final

World Number One, Serena Williams of the United States needed only minutes 48 minutes to dispatch Russian Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-0 as she qualified for her ninth Wimbledon final in her quest for her 22 Grand Slam title. That will equal the record of Germany’s Steffi Graf in the Open era.

It was the shortest Wimbledon semi-final ever since keeping of records began. A Serena, in a hurry, just lost only three points on her serve in the whole game. It was a fantastic show of power, skills and domination as Serena won her third set at love in this year’s Wimbledon.

A joyous Serena later said: “I’m very happy, I was really focused because I knew we’ve had some tough matches before. I knew she could bring it to me. It’s never easy, every point you have to fight for. Nine Wimbledon finals? It’s weird. I can’t believe I’m in the final again.  Winning the trophy is the ultimate goal. I want Venus to win and do well, but Kerber would be a great match too. Either way, I’ll look forward to it.”

She now plays Germany’s Angelique Kerber, who beat Venus Williams in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the second semi-final,  on Center Court on Saturday. It will be a rematch of this year’s Australian Open final, which Kerber won for her first Grand Slam title.
