Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2019 election.

The Waziri of Adamawa floored other contestants, including Senate President, Bukola Saraki and pre-convention favourite, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto in a hot contested primary held at Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Sunday.

The Chairman of the PDP Convention Committee and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, announced the results of the primary on Sunday morning.

He said the 72-year-old Atiku finally polled a total of 1532 votes to beat Mr. Tambuwal (693), who had taken an early lead during the counting.

Saraki came third with 317 votes.
