The embattled senator, representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has wished Nigerians Happy New Year from hiding.
Mr. Melaye sent the greetings via a video he uploaded on internet on Tuesday night, in which he begged God to reply his tormentors by fire.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have been laying siege on Melaye’s Abuja home since Friday. Police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood had said that the senator is wanted for attempted murder, saying that the police officers will not vacate his residence until he surrenders.
It is unclear if Mr. Melaye is holed up in there.
The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, had described police intimidation of Melaye as “tyranny” taken too far.
Mr. Melaye is an outspoken critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari government.
