The embattled senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly has said officers of the Nigeria Police are now “bringing in tool boxes to break doors and vandalize my house.”
Mr. Melaye raised the alarm in a tweet on Wednesday morning, saying Police EOD truck just delivered the tools to the officers who have been laying siege on his Abuja residence since Friday.
Police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood said that the senator is wanted for attempted murder, making it clear that the police officers will not vacate his residence until he surrenders.
It is unclear if Mr. Melaye is holed up in there.
However, an eye-witness at the scene confirmed to CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that the Police have deployed over 50 additional operatives around the senator’s residence at #11, Sangha Street, Off Mississippi, Maitama, FCT.
According to him, many police officers were seen taking positions around the house, giving the impression that they are ready to storm the building.
The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, had described the siege on Melaye’s home as “tyranny” taken too far.
Mr. Melaye is an outspoken critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari government.
