Former Nigerian Military Spokesman Kidnapped By Terrorists Dies In Captivity

A former Nigerian Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar Rtd. has died in captivity of terrorists two weeks after he was abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State, in the country’s Northwest.

His death was confirmed by the Katsina State Govt, saying he “died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension.”

General Rabe was one-time Director of Defence Information (DDI) at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria. He was recently abducted by terrorists, alongside his kidnapped wife around the Matazu area of Katsina State while travelling to attend a wedding ceremony.

Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu, described the incident in a statement on Saturday as a tragic loss despite efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure the general’s freedom.

“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in bandits’ captivity. Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various Security Agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement said.
