Against the backdrop of incessant kidnappings across the countryhe, the Nigerian Senate yesterday approved the death penalty for kidnappers. It also asked State legislatures to pass similar laws in order to help fight the menace.
These resolutions of the Senate followed its consideration of a report of the Joint Committee on Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence in respect of a motion on the recurrence of kidnapping and hostage-taking in Nigeria, entitled, “A National Wake-Up Call.”
According to the report, 225 kidnap cases were reported between Oct and Nov 2015. Out of the N85m demanded, N28m was paid by victims.
